A True British Icon… the Aston Martin DB5

The story of Aston Martin’s rise from a two-man operation working from a small London workshop to a globally respected marque has been long, colourful and often dramatic.

A rich and prestigious heritage defines Aston Martin as something truly unique within automotive history. Robert Bramford and Lionel Martin founded the company ‘Bamford & Martin Ltd’, in 1913. 1914 saw the birth of the ‘Aston Martin’, the brand that would go on and become synonymous with style, luxury and elegance. The Aston Martin name came following one of Lionel Martin’s successful runs at the Aston Hill Climb in Buckinghamshire.Within a year the first Aston Martin had been built and registered with the name, and an icon of the automotive world was born.

Aston Martin’s instantly recognisable ‘wings’ has been synonymous with the company since 1927, when the original AM logo was replaced. Over the course of the 20th century a variety of adjustments were made to the design as the wings incorporated contemporary cues from each era.

The Aston Martin DB5 is a British luxury grand tourer that was made by Aston Martin and designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.

Known around the world, the Aston Martin DB5 is often billed as the most famous car ever produced, thanks to the deadly Silver-Birch DB5 that was used by James Bond in Goldfinger which became many schoolboy’s dream carThis signalled the start of an eleven film relationship spanning over fifty years!

Coloured in the distinctive Silver Birch ‘Goldfinger’ saw sales of the DB5 increase and with it, the profile of the company.
