1975 Alfa Romeo Montreal RHD

The car featured is a 1975 Alfa Romeo Montreal. Stylish, elegant and distinctive, the Montreal derived its name from the site of its debut at the 1967 World’s Fair an event which celebrated Canada’s centenary.

With a capacity of 2,593cc, the sweet-revving V8 featured twin overhead camshafts per bank and produced, via Alfa Romeo/Spica fuel injection and electronic ignition, 200bhp and 173lb.ft at 6,500rpm and 4,750rpm respectively; mated to a five-speed gearbox, this provided strong performance with a 137mph maximum speed and 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds.

Under the svelte Bertone-designed 2+2 coupé coachwork, independent coil spring front suspension, a live coil-sprung rear axle, limited slip differential and ventilated disc brakes; the result was sure-footed roadholding and ample braking in keeping with the Montreal’s high performance. In performance, design and engineering, the Montreal was knocking on the door of the supercar fraternity, whilst at the same time holding on to its GT credentials. .

The whole interior of the car shows elegance and sophistication, with handsome functional seats, easily reachable controls and, very advanced for the era, an anti-glare dashboard.

This fine and extremely rare right hand drive example was registered in 1975 and the care taken in its maintenance is reflected in its attractive appearance, as well as its exemplary road manners. A substantial history file documents expenditure in recent years. Recently re-trimmed in a beautiful rich natural tan leather which complements the very attractive 70’s metallic yellow gold exterior.

A rare opportunity to own a thoroughbred classic Italian sports coupe, one now very much coming to be considered a true collector’s item and a design icon in its own right.
